Monitoring Of Urban And Peri-Urban Forests
What's going on?
This technological integration will streamline the monitoring process, improve data collection, and facilitate coordination among stakeholders implementing the Urban and Peri-Urban Forest Policy. Under this scheme, the land cover analysis of selected districts is carried out. i.e., Attock, Rawalpindi, Jehlum, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Khushaab, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim yar KHAN, DG Khan, Multan has been done 2019 and 2022. Monitoring of Urban and Peri-Urban Forests benefits:
Monitoring of Urban and Peri-Urban Forests is crucial for ensuring that urban development does not come at the expense of environmental health. These forests are vital to the well-being of urban areas, offering ecological, social, and economic benefits.

Mitigating Urban Heat Island Effect
Mitigating Urban Heat Island Effect: Urban forests help mitigate the urban heat island effect, where cities experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas due to human activities and infrastructure. Forests can lower temperatures by providing shade and cooling the air through evapotranspiration.

Carbon Sequestration
Urban forests act as carbon sinks, capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Regular monitoring allows cities to assess the carbon sequestration capacity of their forests and track their contribution to climate change mitigation.

Public Awareness
Monitoring urban and peri-urban forests provides valuable data that can be used to raise awareness about the importance of green spaces. Ecotourism: Urban forests often attract tourists, especially if they are rich in biodiversity or offer recreational activities. Monitoring helps ensure that these forests are in optimal condition for visitors, supporting local tourism economies and businesses.
